Reading in Context

 
Tell a T-Rex Children read words in context and check for meaning. There are four levels of difficulty available. Level 1 contains mostly CVC words.
 
 

 

Letter Sounds and Matching

 
Interactive Alphabet This site takes children through the letters of the alphabet and shows them how the letter is formed. By clicking on the ear symbol the letter sound will be heard and if you click on the loudspeaker the letter name will be heard. (The first page is the alphabet - click the right arrow to move to letter sounds)
 
 


 
Starfall - Learn to Read These are good quality games and animated stories with which children can interact. The children can click on words to see what they say. Excellent for learning the sounds the letters make.

 
Interactive Snap Interactive Snap - A set of matching activities in the form of an interactive game of “Snap”. Pupils are required to match: lower case letters, upper case letters, lower and upper case letters, high frequency words. Suitable for older pupils with SEN

3 Letter House To play this game children must read a series of randomly generated c-v-c words ( you begin by selecting the ending e.g. -an) and select those which are real words.


 
Word Maker 1 This is an activity the children will enjoy. They have to drag an onset and rime into a word machine to create c-v-c words.

C-V-C Word Wheels The children create c-v-c words by clicking on an onset and rime. The trick is to click at the correct time!!

Alphabet and Alphabetical Order

 
Alphabetical order - One Missing Letter An excellent activity for young children. Pupils have to select the missing letter from a sequence of six letters.

 
Alphabetical Order1 Pupils have to put words into alphabetical order by dragging them into a word panel.

 
Alphabetical Order2 Another chance for pupils to put words into alphabetical order by dragging them into a word panel. Exactly the same as the previous activity but more difficult.
TR Alphabet Song Pupils will enjoy learning the alphabet by singing this jungle song. There are further alphabet activities available. Alphabet Antics is fun!

 

High Frequency Words

 
Wordreader Listen to the word and choose which flower has that word underneath it. This game runs through 37 of the easier high frequency words.
