Mediated Learning is an approach whereby the teacher ensures that clear learning intentions are set for the learner and that understanding is developed by the use of effective questioning techniques.

The teacher gives meaning to the learning by explaining to the learner the explicit strategies and skills involved in a task. The teacher ensures that there is a conducive atmosphere for learning to take place in the classroom. The teacher makes connections for the learner in terms of prior learning, current learning and future learning.

Collaborative/Active Learning - Collaborative Learning involves students working together to achieve shared goals, contributing effectively to success whilst ensuring individual accountability.

Active Learning places the student at the centre, engaging in tasks which encourage open-ended thinking, creativity, the application of learning, risk-taking, and involves a multi-sensory approach.

Thinking Through Learning - Metacognition is at the heart of all thinking skills approaches and programmes.

The aim is to enable learners to be knowledgeable about themselves as learners, to reflect on how successful they are and to select new strategies when they hit problems.

Creative/Active Learning - Creative learning is any activity that engages our intelligence and makes connections to previous learning. It involves: fun and anticipation; practising and applying new skills and knowledge; learning from mistakes and developing resilience.

Active Learning places the student at the centre, engaging in tasks which encourage open-ended thinking, creativity, the application of learning, risk-taking, and involves a multi-sensory approach.
